Delivery at Rungis Marche Paris, the world's largest food market

Last week I had the pleasure of delivering 10 tons to the world's largest market.

 It was my first visit so I parked the truck about 100 km from Paris in order to make a long pause of 11 hours. I set off quite early, the day on the tachograph started as the sun was still above the horizon, it was 3 o'clock at night. I was supposed to deliver the goods at 6.00, so I started with a spare time so as not to get stuck in the poor traffic jams Paris is famous for. The market is in the south of the Paris Metropolis opposite the Paris Orly airport. I heard Rungis has a larger surface area than Monaco so you can reach it by a single highway. Personally, I got to the A6 highway, but you can get there by taking the A6b A4 A86 A10 and the N7 road. At the very beginning the size of the object is impressive, the view on the Map is impressive, but in reality, it is a very large commercial facility with about 1,200 companies! Yes, 1200 companies. When entering the main gate, you must register a debit or credit card. I used DKV but heard that you can use others. There are dozens of streets inside, which is why I used the default address 1 Rue de la Tour, 94150 Chevilly-Larue, France.

Some facts about the complex:

  • the complex covers 232 hectares (573 acres) and is slightly larger than the Principality of Monaco;
  • 13,000 people work there every day;
  • 26,000 vehicles enter every day (of which 3,000 are heavy trucks);

It divides the complex into a couple of huge segments: flowers, fish, fruits, vegetables, and meat. Personally, I delivered exotic fruit. I learned from fellow drivers that the parking lot is quite expensive and there is no free space at night where you can pause for 9 hours. Even the ramp under the ramp can be problematic because of the enormous traffic and many employees who are circling around like ants in an anthill. Prepare for 2 to 4 hours for unloading.
